Salvation By Works, Vol. 8—Life

The Jews had three main things as a guarantee of their salvation: That they were children of Abraham, circumcision, and animal sacrifices.

Circumcision surgery is, according to some “modern circumcisers,” super painful.

Today there are different methods than those used before to remove that small front part of the male genital organ, the foreskin. In biblical times, it was done “to the letter.” It was actually a sacrifice that deserved respect. However, it was just a distinctive and personal mark of being part of a people God chose as his own. No one could see anyone's circumcision, well! Almost nobody…

The Bible says:

And Abraham believed, and it was counted to him as righteousness….(GEN. 15:6). It does not say, “And he was circumcised…and it was counted unto him for righteousness…”

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!

¹⁷ And the LORD said, Shall I conceal from Abraham what I am about to do?
¹⁸ Abraham being a great and strong nation, and all the nations of the earth being blessed in him?
¹⁹ For I know that he will command his children and his household after him, TO KEEP THE WAY OF THE LORD, DOING JUSTICE AND JUDGMENT, so that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what he has spoken concerning him. —GENESIS 18:17-19. (There is no gift there, there is a conditional pact because he kept the Law). 

Yes—indeed, Abraham kept the Law; The Law was not given in the Exodus for the first time, as many think:

⁵ Because Abraham heard my voice, and saved my precept, MY COMMANDMENTS, my statutes and my laws. — GENESIS 26:5

What was given at Sinai was the written law; That's another matter—and a topic for another day.

When Paul says that Salvation is not by work, those words are always directed to the Jews. Always! The Gentiles had accepted the Gospel as Christ taught it. They understood that for their time, sacrifices (those types of sacrifices) had no value.

The Jews believed that because of their father Abraham's works of faith, they were saved. Circumcision, when it was still a sign, was a work of faith and sacrifice to God. However, in Paul's time, after the death of the Lord, it became a work of man. It was a sacrifice that God no longer asked for. Keep slaughtering lambs, it was not necessary. The symbol, with the death of Christ, had already become reality.

There are sacrifices that will never expire here on earth. When God asks the tithe to feed the poorIf you give it to any sect, you turn such a sacrifice into an abomination.

Therefore, when it is said that the works of the law do not save, understand that we are talking about the system of sacrifices and rituals commanded by God himself to represent the final sacrifice and the final rites of the life and death of our Savior, expired for the apostolic age.

The Law—not the law, said:

3 On the eighth day every male will be circumcised. —LEVITICUS 12:3; (LUK. 1:59; PHIL. 3:5)

It is not of works so that no one can boast, It means, do not kill lambs or be circumcised. However, God told Abraham that he would not hide anything from him because he—God, knew that he would teach his children to keep the Law of the Lord. (GEN. 13:18).

Why didn't he mention that he knew he would teach his sons to circumcise themselves? Because circumcision was an act of obedience to the God in whom he had believed.

The Law—not the law, says:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… but it does not say: “Circumcise yourself… Circumcision was an act of obedience, and he who obeys is because he loves.

Everything of God is enclosed in his Law. There is only one way that leads to heaven, the Law of God (REV. 22:14). Yeah, “There is salvation in no one else…” (ACTS 4:12), But it is Jesus himself who sets the conditions so that his sacrifice on the cross will not be in vain for you. (REV. 22:12-16). I mean, Jesus is the way to heaven, and the Law is the way to Jesus (JOHN 14:15),  given that “The end of the Law is Christ” (ROM. 10:4)… Can you understand this?

Enoch walked in it and today he is in heaven. At its front door is the alpha, and at the end, the omega.

⁶ I am the path [the way is the Law] (PROV. 14:2; 1 KING. 22:52; 2 PET. 2:15; PSA. 139:24), the truth [It is also the Law] (EXOD. 20:16) and life [also the law] (LUK. 10:25-28; ROM. 8:2; MAT 19:16-21; DEUT. 32:47; PROV. 13:14; PROV. 12:28). —JOHN 14:6

Ezekiel 20:11, says that God gave his Law so that everyone who fulfills it will live. Finally,

²⁸ On the path of justice [the law] there is life [the Salvation]; in their ways [his Law] there is no death [there is no loss]. —PROVERBS 12:28

Yeah the wages of sin is death (ROM. 6:23), we understand—then, that the payment for life is the law—the law that Christ established (JOHN 14:15), fulfilled (JOHN 15:10), and shed his blood (HEB. 9:15-28) so that everyone who believes in him (in your law—JOHN 14:15), do not perish, but have eternal life (JOHN 3:16), and left us as a guarantee for our salvation (REV. 22:14)—if we keep it. This is the same principle of Romans 6:23, observed from another angle—because if there is sin it is because there is no life, and if there is life—despite the redundancy, it is because there is no death (sin). And for there to be both one and the other, there must be law, since it is the law that gives definition to both: whoever violates it—sin/death, and whoever keeps it—life.
