Sex Change Surgery, ABORTIONS—Loma Linda University and The Adventist Church

First we broke the news that a sex change surgery had been performed at Loma Linda University Hospital in 1979. ^[1]The Eleventh –ism Begins with the Letter T

“The activities of the Medical Center They will be carried out in a manner consistent with the ethics, principles and philosophy of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Therefore, the Conduct of members of the medical staff, including conduct within the Medical Center, in any circumstances in which a member acts as an official representative of the staff or the Medical Center, and in all settings in which the actions or conduct of staff could reflect negatively on the Medical Center, should not be in conflict with such Ethics, principles and philosophy, including, but not limited to the following:

While there are no Seventh-day Adventist Church rules that forbid the surgical interruption of a pregnancy when clinically indicated, however, in all such instances there must be full compliance with the rules established by the Medical Center and the Medical Staff for proper consultation. Performance of sex change surgical procedures and similar treatments shall also be subject to such prior consultation requirements.”

This document is marked on fiscal year 2006-2007. However, a recent search of the Loma Linda Hospital website reveals that this practice continues to this day...And why would it change?

What better role can you and I play than to relate to LGBT individuals, as part of the family of struggling human beings to which we all belong?
